Glen Coe
If The Highlands are where Scotland hits its rawest register, Glencoe is where they reach a jaw–dropping crescendo.
Glencoe is vast, cinematic, and thick with atmosphere. It never fails to raise the hairs on the back of my neck.

How to go: Car, Bus, Private Hire Taxi
Where to Stay: Glencoe House Hotel, Clachaig Inn
Stay on a small Hebridean Island
There is no feeling like waking up as an islander for a few days, surrounded by the elements– a world way from the hubbub of the mainland.
I wouldn’ be too fussy: Ulva, Iona, or Jura would fit the bill, or you could look to the ‘Small Isles’ of Eigg, Muck, Rùm, Canna or Sanday Sanday.
I think of my stays on Scotland’s smaller islands not as escapes but as recalibrations: something I feel we could we could all benefit from.
